Popcorn Goes Hollywood

Movie magic isn’t complete these days without some quirky popcorn buckets. With Despicable Me 4 hitting theaters, they’re back at it with a new limited-edition popcorn carrier that’s already stealing the show.

Gru's Latest Gig: The hands-free popcorn carrier, inspired by Gru’s new baby-raising adventure, is the latest in a line of collectible buckets.

Critics’ Corner: Dune’s director Denis Villeneuve labeled the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine holder “horrific.”

Despite a nearly 20% drop in AMC’s ticket sales since 2018, popcorn bucket sales are booming, keeping food, beverage, and “other” sales at pre-pandemic levels. Theaters aren’t the only beneficiaries—studios earn licensing fees from these quirky collectibles.

Golf Cart Wars: US vs. China

US golf cart makers are seeking a boost from the White House, requesting a 100% tariff on Chinese-made golf carts. Club Car LLC and Textron Specialized Vehicles Inc. argue that cheap imports are undercutting their business.

The Issue: Chinese carts, often electric, are imported without add-ons to dodge higher tariffs. They’re then upgraded in the US. The companies want the same tariffs applied to Chinese golf carts as those on cheap Chinese EVs.

The Numbers: Imports of Chinese carts and similar vehicles soared from $148 million in 2020 to $916 million in 2023, according to the companies' filing with the US Trade Representative.

AppSumo: The Startup Saver You Need

Ever felt like you’re stuck in “Inhell” at your current job? Noah Kagan did too, whilst he worked at Inhell *cough, cough, sorry, Intel.

Then after a whirlwind journey through Facebook and Mint, he launched AppSumo - a platform offering discounts on software and digital tools for entrepreneurs.

Interestingly, they’re heading up the trend of SaaS companies doing lifetime deals, as opposed to monthly subscriptions.

By working with SaaS companies to calculate their LifeTime Value, they then use that to offer a lifetime deal on the software.

By getting a shorter payback period (as they get the money upfront), they’re also able to offer a discount on the SaaS tool.

Curious to see what deals could transform your startup? Check out AppSumo and find out!
